PHS Athletics: Boys’ Tennis Advances in Sectionals, Volleyball, Boys’ Soccer Fall

The Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team won their first round sectional match over Wheeler 4-1. Varsity now has a record of 13-5 and are currently ranked 6th in the area. Kyle Tampier won the deciding match 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No 2 singles. Senior Jeff Craig won 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Sophmore Patrick Derr won 6-1, 6-1 at No 3 singles. Senior Joey Todd and Junior Zach Lundy won 6-2, 6-3 at No 2 doubles. The Indians play state ranked Valpo at 4:15 today at Portage for the Championship.

In volleyball, the varsity team won the first match 25-23 but lost the next 3 against the Mustangs. The Indians defense stepped up and was led by Ari Cummings with 11 digs. Alicia Ciesielski contributed 11 kills on the aggressive end. (25-23, 15-25, 15-25, 20-25)

The JV girls won a tight game one, but failed to keep it going and lost in three. (25-23, 11-25, 10-15)

Even though the freshmen girls fell to Munster, they all played great and as a team. Good luck tomorrow against Lake Central. (9-25, 17-25)

The Boys’ Soccer Team lost 1-4 to Valpo last night. Brenden Swindle had the lone goal for Portage. Nate Johnston had 5 saves and Allen Barrett had 3. The JV team lost 0-6 last night against Valpo. (overall 9-4-1, DAC 3-3)
