PHS Athletic Round-Up 01-16-14

INDIAN HEADPortage 104.9, Lake Central 95.5 (Gymnastics)

The Portage High School varsity gymnastics team beat Lake Central Tuesday night by a 104.9-95.5 score. The Indians' Madison Kurtz placed first all-around, including garnering the top spot on bars and beam, and second on floor and vault. Danielle Solis placed first on floor and vault, and second on bars, beam, and all-around. Delaney Barcelli placed third on beam and all-around.

The Portage JV also won, 83.975-82.175. Selena Sanchez won bars.

Portage 49, Andrean 40 (Girls Basketball)

The Lady Indians scored a 49-40 road win over Andrean Tuesday night. Alexis Johnson led all scorers with 17, while Kaitlyn Steers added 13 points.

The Portage junior varsity also won, 27-25. Emma Havrilla led the team with nine points.

Valparaiso 29, Portage 11 (Girls Freshman Basketball)

The PHS girls’ freshmen team lost to Valpo, 29-11. Micaela Enright had seven points to lead the Lady Indians and Britney Corley chipped in four.

Valparaiso 43, Portage 18 (Freshman Boys Basketball)

The freshman boys A team lost to Valpo, 43-18. The B team won a nail biter, 26-25. Alex Constandars had seven points in a great team effort for Portage.

Valparaiso 114, Portage 72 (Girls Swimming)

The Vikings topped the Indians on Tuesday. Nancy Michko, Laryssa Vaklavic, Courtney Joseph, Carlie Parpart and Justine Brasseur were winners for Portage.

Portage 62, La Porte 18 (Wrestling)

The Indians varsity team picked up a Wednesday night conference dual win, while the Portage JV also won, won 51-24.

Portage 44, Highland 37 (Freshman Boys Basketball)

The freshman boys A team beat Highland last night, 44-37. Mike Delgado led the way with 12 points. Zach Rudd scored eight, and Jordan Cousins added seven.
