PHS Athletic Announcements for April 17, 2013

INDIAN HEADGirls’ track and field team beat Merrillville 66-65 but lost to Chesterton 50-82.

Madison Kurtz 1st place 100m hurdles, Tara Kostelnik 1st place discus and shot-put, Ashley Sosbe 2nd place discus and shot-put and Jade McKnight finished 2nd in the Long Jump.

Other top performers for the meet: Paige Pizer, Kyra Ball Taylor Hale, Rochelle Stubblefied, Torie Ostrander, Shakiea Boyd, Danielle Coppinger and Hannah Hilzley Haley Orshonsky, Erin Reynolds, Rhyan Sloan and Mariah Blackwell.

Boys Track split dual meets last night with a win over Merrillville 77-55 and a loss to Chesterton 57-75. Overall firsts for the Indians were:

  • Taylor Sebben on the 300 Hurdles Lucas Sullivan in the 3200 meter run
  • The 4x100 relay of Taylor Sebben, Jared Nieves, Alex Sanchez & Kyle Green

Girls’ varsity and JV tennis teams beat Hammond Morton 5-0. Freshman won 3-1.

Varsity softball beat La Porte 4-1. Kiley Jones struck out 5 and had a 3-run homerun to lead Portage. Lauren Murray added 2 hits and Alexis Johnson added a double.

JV softball won 11-0.

Rachel Smock 2 for 3, Krystle Allison 1 for 1 with 2 walks, and Summer Vardaman, Sydney Condiff and Madi Jercha each had a double adding to the Indians score.

The varsity baseball team improved to 8-2 overall, 2-0 in the DAC, beating La Porte 6-4. Tyler Kniola picked up his 3rd win on the season pitching a complete game, while striking out 4. Eric Mesarch led the offense with 3 RBI’s, while CJ Haupt added a 2 out single plating 2 runs. Tyler Soberg added a double for the Indians who return to Portage to face Merrillville tonight.
