PCACS: Providing Door to Door Transportation and More in Porter County

The PCACS door to door transportation service runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. busvanRiders can travel from their home to anywhere in Porter County and return home again for only $2. The disabled ride for FREE. And low-income riders can apply for financial assistance to cover the transportation fees. To schedule a ride, contact the PCACS Transportation Director at 462.4302.

You might not know the following about Porter County Aging & Community Services (PCACS):

  • PCACS has been serving Porter County for over 50 years. They have a staff of 22 and an annual operating budget of over $1 million dollars.
  • The PCACS door to door transportation program includes 8 buses and 2 vans. In 2009, they provided over 15,900 rides to 700 Porter County residents.
  • Their Hebron Senior Center hosts about 35 seniors a day during the week. They served over 2,600 meals at the Hebron nutrition site in 2009.
  • PCACS helps hundreds of low-income Porter County residents avoid energy service disconnection annually. In 2009, they gave out $1,154,138 in energy assistance.
  • Through their Section 8 Housing program, PCACS provides safe and affordable housing to over 300 local seniors, families and disabled individuals.
  • Their Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) connects seniors 55 and older with over 50 local volunteer stations that includes nonprofits, faith based charities, theatres, schools, radio stations, nursing homes, and more.
  • PCACS provides FREE counseling to seniors on their Medicare supplement choices. Through their State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), they provide seniors access to well trained counselors that patiently help them make these important choices.
  • PCACS hosts over 30 FREE workshops each year on topics that help Porter County residents improve their quality of life. Topics range from “Heart Attack Prevention” to “How to Have a Successful Job Interview.” PCACS workshops take place at locations throughout Porter County.
