Opportunity Enterprises Receives Grant from Peoples Bank’s Community First Program

Peoples-Bank-Grant-2014Opportunity Enterprises is proud to be the most recent recipient of a grant from Peoples Bank’s Community First Program. The $2,650 contribution from Peoples Bank will go towards Opportunity Enterprises’ Respite Program, which provides caregiver relief for families caring for loved ones with developmental disabilities. OE was also given board games, videos, and a Wii that will be used in OE’s two Respite Homes.

We are grateful to the employees of Peoples Bank for their generosity in supporting the mission of OE. Our Respite Program is such a wonderful service to our participants and their families—caregivers get a chance to rejuvenate themselves, while their child or sibling is treated to quality one-on-one time filled with so many fun activities,” said Hazen. “We truly enjoy the wonderful partnership between the employees of Peoples Bank and the participants of Opportunity Enterprises.

According to Austin Logue, Vice President of Peoples Bank, the Community First program is the philanthropic arm of Peoples Bank. “The committee consists of 14 employees so that input from every department is heard. Community First is in its 20th year, and though the name of the program has changed, one thing remains constant: our employees want to raise money for those in need in the surrounding community,” said Logue, the chairperson of the Community First committee. “We have raffles, bake sales, and other activities throughout the year to raise the funds, which are employee driven. Whatever the employees raise is then matched by Peoples Bank.”

OE works to maximize self-sufficiency and enrich the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. OE serves over 1,100 adults and children with disabilities in Porter County and throughout Northwest Indiana. For more information, visit www.oppent.org.
