A Northwest Indiana youth-serving nonprofit organization has been chosen to receive a Capacity Building Coaching grant from the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI), which includes strategic planning guidance, consulting, training and professional development.
The Family and Youth Service Bureau Porter County in Valparaiso is one of twelve organizations across the state chosen to receive a grant. The agency offers family support programs.
“We are excited to be working with the Indiana Youth Institute as a recipient of a Capacity Building Coaching grant,” said Lisa Jordan, president and CEO of the bureau. “We believe that our agency has served our community well since our founding in 1972, and we look forward to embracing some new ideas and strategies as we prepare for the next 40 years.”
The Family and Youth Service Bureau Porter County has identified funding and updating human resource polices as needs to be addressed through the grant. As part of the grant, consultants will be matched with agency staff and board members to develop strategies and implement best practices so the organization can best deliver services that will positively affect the lives of children
“The Family and Youth Service Bureau Porter County is a remarkable organization, improving the community through a variety of programs,” said Bill Stanczykiewicz, president and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute. “The grant will help this agency become even more strategic with its programs and resources, helping its board members, staff and volunteers make an even more significant impact in the lives of the children it serves.”
As part of the grant, the Family and Youth Services Bureau Porter County will receive:
- Up to 150 hours of professional consulting from IYI to provide child and youth development training, program development, board development, staff development, evaluation planning, human resources management policies, and sustainability plans to increase the effectiveness of the organization’s programming.
- Registration for one to attend “Principles and Techniques of Fundraising,” a five-day overview course taught by The Fund Raising School at Indiana University in Indianapolis, all approved travel expenses paid.
- Registration for two to attend IYI’s Because Kids Count Conference in Indianapolis, Dec. 3-4, 2013, all approved travel expenses paid.
This is the first year for the grant program. Other recipients include: the Comfort House Child Advocacy Center in Corydon; Children First in Auburn; Family Centered Services in Bluffton; Girls on the Run of Hamilton County in Fishers; Horizons at St. Richards Episcopal School in Indianapolis; John Jay Center for Learning in Portland; Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana in Evansville; Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau in Crawfordsville; Peer Information Center for Teens in Richmond; Hear Indiana in Indianapolis; and VSA Indiana in Indianapolis.
IYI created the Capacity Building Coaching grants for nonprofit community and faith-based organizations serving youth or families throughout Indiana. Consulting is provided by IYI.
