NIRPC Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting

NirpcGBLogocopyThe Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

NIRPC created the CAFR in addition to the annual State Board of Account’s audit report. The CAFR contains additional financial and background information about NIRPC, providing an overview of the agency and conveying its commitment to openness and transparency in its operations. The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups who read the CAFR. “NIRPC is proud to have its CAFR recognized by GFOA. While it requires going above and beyond the standard state audit, we found it important to provide greater transparency to the public,” said Angie Hayes, NIRPC’s Director of Finance. A copy of the CAFR can be found on NIRPC’s website at http://www.nirpc.org/about/business-with-nirpc/audits-comprehensiveannual- financial-report.aspx.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C.

NIRPC is the Metropolitan Planning Organization and regional council of local governments for the three counties of Northwest Indiana. NIRPC provides the forum for local elected officials, regional, leadership, and citizens to address regional issues relating to transportation, the environment and community and economic development. NIRPC seeks to develop consensus solutions with the broadest participation.
