NIPSCO Joins Forces with Barker Middle School to Spread Holiday Cheer

salvation-armySchool penny war and clothing and food drive benefiting Michigan City Salvation Army gets a boost from matching grant

NIPSCO representatives, Barker Middle School students and teachers came together on Thursday to celebrate the successful completion of a holiday giving campaign benefiting Michigan City Salvation Army.

The school received a matching grant from NIPSCO in support of their penny war, which raised more than $1,100. In addition to the funding, employees of the utility’s Michigan City Generating Station contributed food and winter clothing to the community effort.

The drives were part of a larger, company-wide Pass the Hat initiative that spans all of NIPSCO’s northern Indiana service territory.

Our NIPSCO employees responded generously to the Pass the Hat campaign again this year,” said NIPSCO Public Affairs Manager Angie Nelson. “It’s great to have the chance to team up with the enthusiastic students at Barker Middle School to help our community this holiday season.”

Established in 1865, the Salvation Army offers emergency assistance and basic human services, including food, clothing and shelter, to some of the most vulnerable residents of our community. For more information, visit www.samichigancity.org.
