The Indiana Smoke Free Air Law will be going into effect July 1, 2012. This law states that all public places, with the exemption of casinos/racino's, stand alone bars and private clubs that vote to continue to allow smoking, must adopt a smoke free workplace. There is a signage requirement as well. There must be a sign on all public entrances that states This establishment is Smoke Free by IN State law, and ALL businesses must post signage stating No Smoking within 8 Feet of entrance for all entrances of their establishments (15 feet in Valparaiso).
For more information on the law please visit the Alcohol and Tobacco commission's website at www.in.gov/atc, where you can see frequently asked questions and download signs for your business. Please be watching the mail for a Breathe Easy Indiana Post Card where a tool kit may be ordered including signage for your business FOR FREE from www.breatheindiana.com.
