New Corpus Christi Chapel Cross Receives Bishop’s Blessing

New-Corpus-Christi-Chapel-Cross-Receives-Bishops-BlessingMost Rev. Donald Hying (foreground-left), who recently was appointed bishop of the Gary Catholic Diocese, blesses a new San Damiano cross that resides above the altar in the Corpus Christi Chapel at Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point, during a crowded ceremony on June 3.

According to teachings, the cross represents one St. Francis of Assisi was praying before when he was commissioned by Christ to renew the Catholic Church. It contains images of saints and others related to the crucifixion. Shown to the bishop’s right is the Rev. Anthony Janik, hospital spiritual services director, who assisted in the blessing with chaplain James Etter.
