New CEO Appointed at Portage YMCA

Adam-BurroughsJanis Regnier, Chief Volunteer Officer of the YMCA of Portage Township recently announced that the Board of Directors unanimously approved the search committees recommendation to appoint Christopher Aungst as the next CEO of the YMCA of Portage Township. "The board and staff are pleased to welcome Chris to our Y family. Chris expressed a deep passion for the YMCA mission and he is returning to the organization he feels connected with. We are excited to begin a new chapter with Chris and looking forward to the years ahead," said Regnier.

The CEO Transition & Search Committee under the leadership of Adam Burroughs, Vice-CVO, led a committee of 6 highly engaged volunteers in a national search process which was supported by Y-USA. “The committee worked diligently throughout the process and reviewed a large pool of very qualified candidates. We are confident that Chris is a great fit for our community and we are excited about impact he will create for the youth and families in the greater Portage area,” said Burroughs.

Chris recently worked as Director of the C.V. Starr Community Center for the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District in Fort Bragg, CA. He was the Center’s CEO administering a $1.5M budget. Prior to his role at the C.V. Starr Community Center Chris was Aquatics and Facilities Director at the Monroe County YMCA in Bloomington, IN. He was responsible for operations of the Aquatic Department and programming for two sites. Prior to the Y, Chris worked as Recreation Manager for the City of Scottsdale in AZ where he managed all aspects of an aquatic fitness center with 950,00 gallons of water park style outdoor pools, workout room, fitness studios, skate park, soccer fields, and shelters. “I am excited to become part of the Portage YMCA and join a community that embraces the Y and supports its efforts to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. I look forward to working with our volunteers and staff to address the needs of our community,” said Aungst.

Chris is a graduate of Arizona State University with a B. S. in Kinesiology and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management at Regis University. During Chris’s 4 years at ASU he had the distinct honor of being the University’s mascot. Chris and his wife Holly, have two children—Adam, age 5 and Luke, age 3. Chris will be joining the staff of the YMCA of Portage Township on Monday August 26. Please join me an extend Chris and his family a warm Hoosier welcome.
