Myers Kindergarten Learns about Leaves

Myeres-Kindergarten-Learn-about-LeavesKindergarten students at George L. Myers Elementary in Portage, learned about leaves with Michelle Benson from the Porter County Soil and Water Conservation District. Mrs. Benson visits schools in Porter County throughout the year providing “in-school” field trips to learn about our environment. The children in kindergarten used their senses to learn characteristics of leaves. They touched, looked, listened and smelled many types of leaves around the school property.

Myers School has a variety of trees and shrubbery planted purposefully for outdoor learning. Mr. Paul Swenson, the school’s first principal for over 35 years had the vision that the outside environment of the building should also be a learning place.
