Myers Elementary Get a Special Performance

Myers Elementary School held their monthly Family Gathering on Friday and there was a special performance by the Portage High School Choraliers. The kids were elated to see the lovely ladies in their sparkly red dresses and the gentlemen looking smart in their suits. Parents and teachers gathered as well to be part of this great event.

Every month MES holds a Family Gathering to celebrate student successes and give the students opportunities that they may not get otherwise.

"Having the PHS Choraliers here is something that lets the kids know that at some point they can be part of something great like this group," Jeff King, Principal at MES said. "It gives the kids something to look forward to when they get in to high school."

Not only were the Choraliers highlighted, Principals Awards were given out to some 3rd grade students who received high test scores recently.

"Anything athletic, anything academic, anything community service oriented...we just really like to make a big fuss about our kids," King said.

A dance party broke out during the event and the Choraliers joined their younger counterparts in the gym to bust some moves. Afterward, the performance began. THe Choraliers performed a variety of music from upbeat, popular songs to slow ballads that they performed recently at ISSMA.

Aaron Riegle, Choral Director at Portage High School introduced the group to the kids and he was very excited to have them perform at MES.

"They have planned this for some time. And we are more than happy to be here. We want to create an awareness for our future students for Portage High School and I know they do a great job with the music here and at our other elementary schools," Riegle said. "The group is going to do some vocal jazz at first and some of our ISSMA pieces to show that you can sing fun music as well as serious, more classical pieces."

The students loved the performance. These monthly Family Gatherings are such a great idea! There will be future vocalists coming from Myers Elementary for sure.
