Myers Elementary 2014 Kidventions

myers-elementary-kidventionsDid you ever wonder what your dog would say if it could talk to you like a human? Did any of you gamers out there ever consider the possibility of a 4D holographic video console that causes the action to literally appear in your living room?

The 5th grade students in Mr. Phil Dietrich’s Science class at Myers Elementary produced these ideas and more in a project requiring them to invent a one-of-a-kind item. Students developed their ideas in part by identifying problems requiring solutions or luxury items they would like to one day see on the market. From there, students researched all topics ranging from biology to electronics, and more, to provide foundational research that would serve as a launching point to design their new product.

In the coming week, students will be producing a prototype of their invention, and presenting it to their fellow classmates in a style much like the network television show “Shark Tank,” in which budding entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to potential financiers. Stay tuned, because you might one day bite into a piece of “Drama Gum,” which prevents the consumer from spreading rumors or gossip while chewing!
