Midwest Express Clinic opens Cedar Lake, Portage locations

Midwest Express Clinic opens Cedar Lake, Portage locations

Midwest Express Clinic is celebrating the opening of two new locations: one in Cedar Lake and another in Portage. These clinics are staffed by healthcare professionals offering years of experience and providing high-quality, comprehensive non-emergency care at affordable costs.

The new clinics mean that Midwest Express Clinic is now operating eight locations around the Region, marking a critical step in forming a network that spans across Northwest Indiana. At this unprecedented time, many clinics and doctors' offices don’t accept patients due to COVID-19 restrictions, but at Midwest Express Clinic, we recognize the need for quality healthcare and have opened our doors to walk-ins and patients of all types offering both urgent care and primary care services.

“We knew that the residents of Portage and Cedar Lake needed access to affordable healthcare,” said Kasia Marshall, Clinical Resource at Midwest Express Clinics. “We wanted to make sure that we were able to provide the entire Northwest Indiana region with extraordinary healthcare, with heart. By opening these two new clinics, we are a step closer to achieving this goal.”

"In regards to Covid-19, we are veterans. We have been tackling this pandemic with grace since it started and have a few different options for testing including, rapid Covid-19 testing, PCR, and antibody testing, with protocols in place to keep patients and staff safe," Marshall said. "We strive to offer the highest quality of care, in the quickest manner, with every patient leaving feeling happy and well cared for."

The new clinics are open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are equipped to handle everything from your primary care needs, women’s health services, pediatric care, various shots and injections, and even on-site x-rays.

“We’re all ready to jump right in,” said Tammi Nolasco, RMA and Team Resource at the Cedar Lake location. “I’ve worked at other Midwest Express Clinics before and have seen the good our services can do, so it’s really exciting to be out here meeting a new community.”

After all of the waiting for opening day, the team at the Cedar Lake clinic was eager to start welcoming patients through their doors.

“It took a while to get here, but we made it,” said Nolasco. “Patients are number one for us, they’re always our first priority. I’ve worked at a number of other clinics, and none of them take care of their patients the way they do at Midwest Express Clinic.”

The breadth of care that Midwest Express Clinic provides its patients combined with their speedy service and expert staff means that patients come to rely on them for everything from injuries such as fractures and sprains to family services such as school physicals and regular checkups.

“At MEC we care for patients of all ages, and what sets us apart is that we are not only urgent care, but we are also family care," said Heather Kmiecik, a nurse practitioner at the Cedar Lake location. "I can see a baby and then in the same visit see the mother for general wellness and then see the grandmother for her blood pressure. Patients do not have to travel or go to multiple providers because of age limitation, which is nice, especially in a time of Covid-19 where getting into their primary providers or pediatricians can be a difficult task."

"In addition, because we work so closely with families, word of mouth spreads and then we end up seeing extended family members, creating a close and trusting relationship," Kmiecik said. "They heard that someone they trust had a good experience, they’re not just coming in because they saw a fancy blinking sign.”

Kmiecik said that the key to compassionate care is to offer the “Disney experience.”

"Kids even like it too, because we try to give them the Disney experience, by making their visit not so scary, which in turn sets the tone for further visits, where kids are actually excited to come and see the provider," she said. "They get stickers, crowns, masks, and with parents' permission, a sucker when they leave. We do our best to make sure everyone leaves with a smile.

Like Nolasco, Kmiecik has experience at other Midwest Express Clinics and is eager to offer their signature care to a new Northwest Indiana community.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” she said. “Cedar Lake is an entirely new area to me, so I’m really looking forward to getting to know the patient population.”

The new locations in Portage and Cedar Lake mean that Midwest Express Clinic now provides care to 19 distinct communities across Northwest Indiana and Illinois.

“Indiana is where our story started,” said Muhammad Tayyab, Marketing Director at Midwest Express Clinic. “It’s our mission to help as many people as we can with quick, affordable access to healthcare. That’s what these clinics are designed for, and it’s why we’re excited to be here in Portage and Cedar Lake.
