Meet the Man Behind the Monument

There’s always a good reason to go to Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille; you want a great meal, it’s got an awesome atmosphere, you want to meet and be around cool people, there are fun events and specials that happen all the time, it’s Wednesday... whatever your reason is for heading out to Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille, you know that you’ve made the right choice.

Here’s another reason to go to Industrial Revolution: the aforementioned meeting and being around cool people was an understatement. On Wednesday evening, someone paid a special visit to Industrial Revolution. His name is Sergio Furnari, and he is the creator of the unique and awesome Lunch on a Skyscraper monument that you see in, on top of, and all around the restaurant.

“It took a couple of years to make,” Furnari said in regards to the monument and other statues around the establishment. “I do it all by hand and I have assistants that help. I love what I do and I’ve been sculpting all my life.”

Furnari went on to express that he is quite pleased with the finished product that now can be seen when dining in as well as from highway 30. Furnari is a Sicily-born artist that now hails from New York City. All of his artwork is hand-made and can be found around the world. One would describe his work to be a strikingly life-like depiction of the “Everyman”.

The restaurant was packed as usual but not only were there people there to enjoy the food, they were also there to meet and talk to Furnari himself. He happily spoke to guests, shaking hands, posing for photos and signing autographs.

“He designed these mini ironworker statues, which you now see in the restaurant, and I went online to see where I could buy them,” Mike Leeson, Owner of Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille, explained. “I came across his website and found that not only did he make the miniatures but also life-size statues as well. And his art fit our theme very well. The theme for the restaurant was about taking risks. And the whole iconic image symbolizes that in a nutshell. What image is there that symbolizes taking a risk more than those people that stood at the top of the Rockefeller Center? So when I saw Sergio’s work, there wasn’t an option to find someone else’s artwork.”

For anyone who was present, they had the chance to enter a drawing where some lucky winners would get small individual statues, or a large autographed 11 man plaque.
