Meet the 2013 Portage Indians Boys Golf Team

PortageLife.com captured photos of all of the members of the 2013 Portage Indians boys golf team and asked what they are most looking forward to about the season!

Nick Lewis, Senior

“I’m definitely looking forward to playing Valpo and trying to beat them and trying to get to state.”

Tyler Gonzalez, Senior

“Always a great thing to do when you’re at Portage is to beat Valpo and just improve. We had a decent season last year; we really want to improve on our position in conference. We feel like we should be higher than we were last year and we want to improve on and build on last year.”

Collin Graber, Junior

“I’m really excited just to be out here playing with everybody. It’s a great opportunity to get out here and have fun with everybody.”

Mark Mason, Junior

“I think this year we’re going to do really well. I think we have a good team and most of our kids will be coming back next year, so I’m looking forward to that too.”

Tep Junyanid, Junior

“We’ve got a really good shot at advancing far in the regional, possibly going to state this year. We’ve done well in sectionals three years in a row, so I’m pretty excited about this year.”

Jordan Henson, Junior

“We have so many people coming back this year; we only lost one person. We have one through four returning on varsity, and we actually have a really good shot at advancing far this year. We’ve got a really solid team.”

Matt Bliss, Junior

“I’m looking forward to learning from all my teammates and trying to improve as much as I can this season since it is my first year. I’m also looking to break 50 this year and get lower and lower throughout the season.”

Blake Wiseman, Sophomore

“I’m mostly looking forward to getting into the game. This is my first year. It’s not really new, I’ve been doing it with my dad, but it’s just a lot of new things.

Noah Kunstek, Sophomore

“We have a good team coming back from regionals and I’m hoping that we can make a big impact on the DAC and maybe go past regionals this year.”

Jacob Harth, Sophomore

“I’m just looking forward to getting out and getting better. Overall, we’re all doing pretty good.”

Kyle Morrison, Sophomore

“I’m hoping to hit varsity. My dad used to golf when he was a kid and he kind of got back into it a couple years ago, so I got into it with him.”

Tim Cahillane, Freshman

“So far it’s been really exciting. Everyone on the team’s great. They’ve all been helping me out ever since workouts and now on the course. After a year of practicing, I think we’re going to do pretty well.”

Tim Kunstek, Assistant Coach

“The kids have been working really hard. It’s good to come out here on Saturdays and Sundays when we don’t have practice and see our varsity and JV kids out here working outside of our practice times. We’ve got a good group of boys, they really have a lot of potential. My goal for the season is to see them reach their potential. I don’t worry about wins and losses, but I want each kid to improve and do their personal best.”

Dick Kretz, Head Coach

“Not only to improve our overall record, but to improve our DAC record and to get back to where we want to go, because even though we made the regional, we didn’t play up to our potential. I’d like our kids to get back there and redeem themselves and play up to our potential.”
