The desire to help others and give back to those who gave so much is a trait that many staff members of Rittenhouse Village at Portage share. Kim Scott, Director of Recreation and Events for Rittenhouse, loves the residents, enjoys hearing their stories and sharing in the new memories that they make at Rittenhouse.
Scott hails from Chesterton and studied psychology at Purdue and IUSB. She tried many different things and found her niche to be in senior living and helping individuals with special needs.
“I have done so many different things. I really love what I do,” Scott said. “I always like that one on one contact with individuals with different needs. Helping people in different capacities is interesting to me. I love interactions with others and it's what I find to be very important now.”
Scott came upon her position at Rittenhouse from a friend who is an employee with the company. At the time she worked for another senior living facility and left there to work for Rittenhouse.
“Senior living care is a small world and you know just about everyone,” Scott said.
Scott has a busy job and she loves every minute of it. Her duty is to keep the residents active mentally, socially, and physically.
“I love keeping my residents as active as possible. When they stop becoming active and isolate themselves there is a greater chance of their mental health declining,” she explained. “I plan activities that keep them engaged and interested. Everyone seems to really like all of our activities.”
The staff at Rittenhouse Village at Portage are all very dedicated to their jobs and love working with the residents as well as together.
“The staff that’s here has been here for a long time. We have very low turnover and we all get along extremely well,” Scott said.
Outside of work, Scott can be found with her family, or at the beach. “I love the beach. Always have. As a kid I rode my bike to the beach every day. I love the Dunes and Lake Michigan,” Scott said.
