Mayor Sue Lynch treated members of the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Senior Services to a brunch Tuesday to thank them for everything they have done this year and in previous years to serve the seniors of Portage. The brunch was served at the Bonner Senior and Community Center and catered by Cappo's.Mayor Lynch has chaired the committee since 2008.The committee sponsors a spring and fall Film and a Flick, bringing nearly 200 seniors together for a meal and film.
They also sponsor the May Senior Health Fair, August Senior Art Fair and partner with the Porter County Fair in July to offer a special day for seniors and to recognize Honored Seniors in Porter County. All the activities are at no cost to seniors, rather rely on donations and volunteer time from representatives of the various agencies.
In addition to Mayor Lynch, committee members also represent the VNA of Northwest Indiana, Porter-Starke Services, Portage Township YMCA, Miller's Health Systems, Rittenhouse Village of Portage, Dunes Hospice, First Light Home Care, Brickyard Health Care, Portage Township Trustee (Bonner Senior and Community Center), United Way of Porter County, Green Oaks Valparaiso, Valparaiso Senior Village, Belvedere Senior Housing, Porter County Public Library System, Portage Parks Department, Portage City Councilperson Debbie Podgorski, Community Health Care System, Residences at Coffee Creek, One Home Health Care and Mayor's Lynch's Administrative Assistant Norma Laboy.
