Mayor Velazquez’ Public Safety Summit Offers Broad Range of Expertise

On Tuesday, Septemeber 21, 2010, concerned citizens gathered in the Portage High School West Auditorium for the 2010 Public Safety Summit.

Featured speakers included Mayor Olga G. Velazquez, Portage Police Chief Mark Becker, Porter County Prosecutor Brian Gensel, Assistant United States Attorney Phillip Benson, Porter County Commissioner Robert Harper, and Portage Township School Superintendent Michael J. Berta.

The event featured a strong cross-section of the community with people working at school, local, county, state, and federal level to keep community members realistically informed on what is going on in the community, the programs that are in place and what they are doing to be improving constantly in order to make Portage a safe place from kids through adults. It is remarkable watching them all work together and make progress in the community.

There was a good turnout, great questions from those in attendance with plenty of interaction with the presenters and plenty of follow-up scheduled amongst the various groups and individuals.

It was a well done event and part of the effective community outreach going on in the Portage community!
