Mayor Olga G. Velazquez is extending an invitation to the public to join her at her Annual Charity Ball. This year’s event is themed “Sweet Home Portage” and will feature music by Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues. The event will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Duneland Falls Banquet Center, 1100 N. Max Mocal Highway (SR 149), Portage, IN with cocktails (cash bar) from 6:00 – 7:00pm and dinner beginning at 7:00pm. The cost is $60/per person payable to Porter County Community Foundation. 
Proceeds from the event will be donated to local charitable organizations. There are a limited number of seats available. RSVP to Norma Laboy, 734-6782.
Last year, over 500 guests attended and donated over $10,000 to these local charities: The Salvataion Army, Respite House, Reilly C. Bush Memorial Foundation, Bonner Senior Center, Boys & Girls Club of Portage, Portage YMCA, Porter County Community Foundation, NorthShore Health Center, Portage Township Food Pantry, Rebuilding Together, Portage Township Education Foundation, United Way, Porter County Special Olympics, and the Portage High School Natural Helpers and ROTC programs.
