Local high school students will be participating in this year's upcoming United Way Youth Day of Caring volunteer event. The event will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 9am to 1pm at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens.
The Youth Day of Caring, hosted by area United Ways and the Power of Youth Council, provides local high school students with the opportunity to impact and tackle vital issues in the community. Specifically, students will be assisting in Taltree's preservation efforts.

Kids from all different backgrounds and from every corner of Northwest Indiana are coming together to make our region a better place. We’re proud to get to work with such great kids,” said Lake Area United Way President & CEO Lisa Daugherty.
"Youth Day of Caring is a fantastic opportunity for high school students across the region to make a difference together, not just compete against each other in sports and academics," said Mackenna Schon, Director of Volunteer Engagement with the United Way of Porter County. "We're really proud of the impact our Power of Youth students have already made on our community, and their participation in this event really drives home the fact that they want to all work together to make a difference."
High school student clubs, athletic teams, groups of friends and church groups are invited to participate. After two hours of volunteer work, volunteers will be treated to an onsite cookout with live music from local student band The Concept.
Power of Youth is a youth council that consists of high school students from every Porter County high school who exhibit a passion for community through service and leadership.
