The doors of Willowcreek Middle School will be open this Thanksgiving Day to serve a free Thanksgiving dinner to the community.
Local churches and organizations have collaborated to welcome the community, including travelers staying here from out of town, the elderly, anyone in need and anyone who may desire camaraderie on Thanksgiving. Organizations including Crossroads Family Church, Family Bible Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Grace Church of the Nazarene, New Hope Church of God, Portage Township Trustee, Portage YMCA, Real Life Community Church and Victory Christian Center have joined together to create a community of family this Thanksgiving Holiday.
“We had so much fun last year and there was such a great turn out. One of the attenders compared it to the ‘First Thanksgiving’. Everyone did their part to make this a nice day for each other. It doesn’t matter how much money you do or don’t make or how old you are or whether you are married or single or if you have children or not. This is what it is all about, community,” said Staci Pearman the event director.
Dinner with all the trimmings and festivities will take place at Willowcreek Middle School, 5962 Central Ave., Portage, IN from 2pm-6pm. There are plenty of activities for children and teens. For those in need of transportation to the event or meal delivery please call 219-805-1659 preferably by 11/21/12. The traditional Thanksgiving meal will be cooked and served at the school by volunteers in the hopes of serving 600 meals to the community. Anyone who would like to volunteer or donate items or monetary contributions can contact 219-805-1659.
