Lakeshore PAWS co-founder Jeanne Sommer is pleased with the impact the organization has made since its first adoption event less than a month ago, a success she credits to the volunteers and donors. “It is hard to believe that since our first event we have found homes for 32 dogs. That is more than a dog a day,” Sommer said. “Thanks to our volunteers and donors. They are the ones making a difference.”

All dogs available for adoption will be spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations—including rabies—and microchipped. In addition, each dog will be de-wormed and given treatments to prevent fleas and ticks.

To ensure that each pet is ready to join a new family, an animal behaviorist will work with the dog beforehand, and dogs also will be socialized with other dogs. The day of the event, adoption counselors will make sure that pets are placed in the perfect home for the pet and the new owner.

Recently co-founded by local business women and animal lovers, Sommer and Kim Langer, Lakeshore PAWS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and protecting dogs and cats. Many animals rescued by Lakeshore PAWS come from local shelters where the dogs are scheduled to be euthanized.
