Lake Area United Way hosted its first ever “Fifth Thursday” networking event to kick off “The Vanguard”, its newly created program focusing on donors who give at the leadership level. The event was held at Buffalo Wild Wings in Schererville, anchored by a football theme, and was attended by approximately 40 of the program’s members.
“It was a great evening of networking and entertainment,” said John Kennedy, Director of Business Development for Structurepoint, Inc. and LAUW’s Campaign Chair for 2013-2014. “Our goal was to create a casual event to show our thanks to our leadership donors.” He added, “We have developed a calendar of unique, after hours networking events that will be held on the Fifth Thursdays of months that correspond.”
The committee is also rolling out a calendar of Breakfast with the Vanguard dates. These events will feature high-profile, region-based speakers that will address the group on various professional and personal development related topics. Aaron McDermott, President of Latitude Commercial Real Estate and Lake Area United Way board member reports, “We are looking forward to our first breakfast event coming up on March 18th featuring Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson. It’s being held at Gary City Hall.”
