Lady Indians’ Track Team, Portage Baseball Rolls

It was a GREAT night to be a Portage Indian as the Portage Track Lady Indians scored two victories last night vs. Boone Grove and Wheeler. Portage defeated Boone Grove 117 20 and the Lady Indians defeated Wheeler 111 20.

Outstanding performances were turned in by double winners Kristy Evans in the 100 & long jump, Tori Bliss in the shot put and discus, Christina Del Turco in the 800 & the mile, & MacKenzie Barcelli in the high jump and pole vault. Other winners included Paige Pizer (3200), Arissa Salas (200), Shakeia Boyd (300 Hurdles), & Jawanza Woods (400). The 4 x 100 team of Ashley Smith, Kristy Evans, Jade McKnight, & Arissa Salas scored a victory as did the 4 x 800 relay team of Keanna Crum, Paige Pizer, Christina Del Turco and Abby Trader.

The Lady Indians will return to action next Tuesday when the La Porte Slicers and Michigan City Wolves come to town. The action starts at 4:30pm.

The varsity baseball team beat Lowell in the NWI Wood Bat Challenge by a score of 5-2. Mike Brunner pitched 6 innings of shut-out ball to pick up the win. Gabe Acevedo and Allen Barrett lead the way with 2 hits a-piece, while Sam Puchalski added 2 RBI's. The Indians play Munster today at home to conclude the Wood Bat Challenge.

The JV team also beat Lowell 5-3. Steven Saylor picks up the win on the mound by pitching 3 innings and striking out 4. Riley Thompson closed the door in the 4th inning. Riley pitched the final 3 innings, striking out 3. Peter Psomadelis led the offense with a double and 2 RBI’s. Patrick Derr, Ty Kniola, Anthony Samano, Justin Newcomb and Alex Heimberg all had one hit each.

*The varsity softball team lost to LaPorte 4-6.

In JV softball, Portage beat LaPorte 9-0. Player Highlights: Katie Peksenak went 4-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI Hannah Hilzley went 3-4 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s Sadie Draves and Taylor Mora each added 2 hits
