Jason Metz is Team Chevy of Valpo’s July Salesperson of the Month

Jason Metz joined Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso a little over a year ago and is already making an impact as one of its most successful salesmen. The hometown Chevy dealer named Metz Salesperson of the Month for July, an honor he had already received more than once in his year with the team.

“I was pretty excited, it’s always nice to get that kind of recognition,” Metz said. “It lets you know that you’re doing the right thing and that your process is working.”

Part of the reason Metz found success so quickly is that he keeps his process simple – learn what the customer wants, relate to their situation, and guide them to the best solution possible.

“My process is basically to just listen to people, not try and sell them something,” he said. “It’s like if this customer were my aunt, I’d recommend her the same thing. My hope is that by being of service to you and showing you that I care, it’ll pay off in the end.”

Metz was not a total novice when he started at Team Chevrolet and immediately noticed that their team operates differently than most other dealerships.

“It’s a really cool, relaxed work environment,” he said. “One of the biggest things is how transparent Team Chevy is when they do business with people. A lot of other dealerships don’t offer that, and the management here is really understanding. You feel good working for them.”

He originally entered the field on a recommendation from his sister after finishing college with a business marketing degree.

“She’s the person that I always go to for advice, and she told me if every place you look is asking for experience, why not sell cars,” he said. “She told me it’s a good profession, so I started selling cars at a different dealership. Then, I took some time off and went to Guatemala for a while and traveled around before coming back and really loving it here at Team Chevy.”

Metz fits in well with the crew at Team Chevrolet, having grown up with the brand.

“I’ve always been a Chevy guy,” he said. “My uncle owned a body shop and I worked there and lived with him for a while. It was always Chevy with him, for as far as I can remember. When you grow up that way, you get to be pretty loyal to it.”

One of the things that Metz most loves about his work is all the conversations he gets to have with countlessdifferent people.

“You get to meet all kinds of people from different walks of life on a daily basis,” he said. “You get to pick their brains on what they think about stuff and get to make relationships and connections with so many unique people. That’s what I really enjoy.”

Metz also knows sign language, which helps him connect with and assist even more people.

“A lot of times, these people go from place to place, and communication can be really rough for them,” Metz said. “My mom is deaf, so I’m fluent in American Sign Language. So, if there’s anyone out there who needs help, I’m more than happy to help them out. It’s always exciting when I see someone speaking sign language.”
