Nation's No. 2 leading scorer selected to second team
The NAIA announced Monday its annual women's basketball All-American team with Indiana University Northwest guard Jessica Carrothers earning second team honors.
Carrothers, from Highland, Indiana, was named the 2024 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and received WBCA All-America honors as an honorable mention.
In her first season with the RedHawks, Carrothers led the CCAC in scoring at 27.7 points per game ranking her second in the nation to go with 6.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and three steals per game. In addition, she shot 54.1% from the floor, 43.2% from three point distance and 87.5% from the free throw line which helped her to also earn CCAC Newcomer of the Year.
"Jessica has deservedly received a lot of recognition this season from our conference and from our own IU Northwest Athletic program," head coach Jesse Ford said. "This All-American recognition is extra special because it demonstrates that the impact that she's having on the floor is being noticed across the country, not just locally in the Chicagoland."
"We're celebrating the success that she helped us find this past season, but I'm also really looking forward to supporting her growth as she becomes an upper-classmen and leads us in her junior year this coming Fall," Ford continued.
Carrothers joins fellow RedHawk alumni Sharon Houston, Megan Holland, Nicki Monahan-Keith and Grayce Roach, who have also garnered the NAIA All-American accolade.
