Indiana University Northwest has announced the hiring of Jordan Lewis as its first head coach to lead its newly founded men’s soccer program, set to begin play in the fall of 2019.
Lewis, who served as the head boys’ soccer coach at Lowell High School this past fall, led the Lowell Red Devils to a 6-10-1 record in his first season.
Prior to his successful season at Lowell, Lewis served as the top assistant and reserve team head coach at Ancilla College from 2014 to 2016. Before Ancilla, Lewis spent one season as the top assistant at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind.
“College soccer is at an all-time high in Northwest Indiana and I look forward to building a successful men’s soccer program and cultivating a winning culture at IU Northwest,” said Lewis. “We are looking forward to recruiting homegrown talent from the region and players from across the Midwest. This diverse mix of players will be crucial to conquering any challenges in our path to success.”
Lewis played collegiately at Valparaiso University and Loyola University where he was twice a member of Horizon League Conference Championship teams and participated in the NCAA Men’s National Tournament. Lewis also enjoyed a decorated prep career at Chesterton High School where he was named IHSAA First Team All-State and led the Trojans to the IHSAA State Finals in 2007.
“Coach Lewis is the perfect choice to lead our new men’s soccer program,” said IU Northwest Director of Athletics Ryan Shelton. “His experience as a high-level player, in addition to his collegiate coaching experience, combined with his familiarity with the Northwest Indiana and the recruiting potential in this region, are factors that position him extremely well to lead our program.”
Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Valparaiso University in 2012 and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Joseph’s College in 2013.
IU Northwest Athletics is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). It will join the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) as a full member this coming fall 2019 and compete in the CCAC across all sports.
