Intern opportunity at Center of Workforce Innovations

PART-TIME PAID COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP (10-12 hours per week)
Term of internship: Commitment of 3-4 months. Possibility of extension

The ideal candidate will be part of a small nonprofit communications department and will report directly to the Communications Manager.

Intern will assist the communications department with tasks that may include, but not limited to developing database email lists, creating training flyers, writing press releases and short stories, helping with compiling and organizing press and publication clippings.

Intern will also be involved with a special project on a communications initiative to create awareness on workforce efforts within the manufacturing industry in La Porte County. Objectives are to:

a) Create awareness of careers related to Advanced Manufacturing in La Porte County, highlighting specific manufacturing employers.

b) Increase interest and participation in post-secondary short-term training available to fulfill workforce needs of the manufacturers in La Porte County.

c) Write press releases and articles related to training, manufacturing employers, success stories of individuals who went through specific training and obtained jobs with manufacturers

d) Create flyers and postings for social media promoting training.

Skills required:

  • -  Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher
  • -  Adobe experience is a plus but not required
  • -  Excellent writing and communicating/storytelling skills (both verbal and written)
  • -  Proficiency and a flair for layout and design (for flyers and social media postings)
  • -  Self-starter with good problem-solving skills
  • -  Highly organized
  • -  Ability to multitask
  • -  Attention to detail
