William "Buffalo Bill" Cody was an American soldier, bison hunter, and showman. He was given his nickname during the American Civil War when he supplied the Railroad workers with Buffalo meat, supplying them a total of 4,280 American Buffalo.

He had many jobs including a trapper, a bullwhacker, a Pony Express Rider, a Wagon Master, a Stagecoach driver and a Hotel manager. He received the Medal of Honor in 1872 for his service to the US Army as a scout. He is known as one of the most colorful figures of the American Old West and became famous for his cowboy themed Wild West Shows that toured around the world showcasing his piece of the American West.
