Edwin Howard Armstrong
(1890-1954)

"Father of Modern Radio"

Edwin Armstrong was an American inventor and electrical engineer. He joined the Army in 1917 with a rank of captain, and was sent to France to set up a wireless communication system. During his service in both world wars, he gave the Army free use of his patents and became critical to the Allied victories. Armstrong was the inventor of modern frequency modulation or (FM) radio. We salute him for his contributions to the United States as well as 42 patents that revolutionized communications. His efforts led way to further inventions of television, computers, the internet, and satellite radio
