Indiana Department of Education Recognizes Portage High School as a School of Promising Practice

Portage-Indian-HeadPortage High School has been recognized by the Indiana Department of Education as a school of Promising Practice in the area of English/Language Arts & Math Looping Program. Portage High School’s Promising Practice is one of 200 education or wrap-around service programs to be recognized by the Department in honor of Indiana’s bicentennial celebration.

Jen Sass, Principal: “The hard work and dedication of our staff to meet the needs of all our students has paid off through our looping program. Our state-mandated test scores have gone up since the looping program began. The relationships our teachers are building with our students through this unique two-year program have made lasting impacts on the lives of our students beyond high school. Thank you to our staff for educating, empowering and inspiring excellence in all our students!”

Identified programs, like the PHS English/Math looping program, are student-centered and focus on positively impacting students through innovative programming and activities that provide a high-quality learning environment and experience. Portage High School’s Looping Program Promising Practice will be shared with educators across the state of Indiana as an example of best practices that are having a positive impact on Hoosier students.
