Hope for the Holidays Will Feed 1,000 Families

NEWfoodbank logoThe Food Bank of Northwest Indiana in cooperation with NIPSCO will be hosting two food distributions to help feed 1,000 northwest Indiana families this holiday. The annual distributions, Hope for the Holidays will be held on Saturday, December 13th (9:30am to 12:30pm) at Portage High School and Saturday, December 20th (9:30am to 12:30pm) at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville.

“We are pleased to be partnering with Walgreens this year and they will be providing flu shots at no charge to attendees,” stated Arleen Peterson, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. She continued, “This is a great partnership and hope to continue to work with other companies and organizations to provide additional services to those in need.”

The distributions both begin at 9:30am and individuals are served on a first-come-first-serve basis. Residents of Lake and Porter Counties need to bring proof of residency (I.D., rent receipt, utility bill, etc.) and are encouraged to bring their own bags and boxes to carry their items.

Hope for the Holidays is supported through $20,000 in matching funds from NIPSCO. With the additional funding, the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is able to provide needy families with additional meals this season. Individuals will receive protein, fruits, vegetables and grains at the distributions.
