State of Emergency Declared, Snow Continues

A State of Emergency has been declared for Porter County as snow off Lake Michigan continues to fall over the region.

1 to 2 inches of snow is expected to fall Monday night, however wind gusts as high as 55 mph are expected to cause blizzard like conditions through out the night prompting officials in Porter County to declare a travel warning. According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, travel may be restricted to emergency personnel only. Citizens are directed to refrain from all travel, comply with necessary emergency measures, cooperate with public officials and disaster services force in executing emergency operations plan, and comply with the directions of properly identified officers.

All Portage Township Schools were closed Monday the 13th, after school officials had placed the district under a 2 hour delay.
