Holladay Properties’ Kyle McFarland loves what he does

Sometimes the best work is the work done behind the scenes. Kyle McFarland, Director of Property Management (Indiana) for Holladay Properties, works tirelessly to provide the best service to his customers.

As the Director of Property Management throughout Indiana, McFarland and his team manage residential, multifamily, and commercial properties for their owners.

Part of a growing and vital field, Holladay Properties currently manages properties in 15 states valuing over $3 billion.

“We manage a variety of properties–mainly commercial and multifamily,” McFarland said. “Some are owned by internal partners within Holladay, and others are owned by third-party clients. We manage properties to achieve our customers best interests and oversee the day-to-day operations.”

Majoring in business administration at Ball State University, McFarland entered into property management through an internship in the Indianapolis area.

“I started out leasing apartments for the summer in Indianapolis,” McFarland said. “I really enjoyed it and getting to interact with all kinds of people from all different backgrounds.”

That opportunity led to a full-time position as a residential property manager with a local company in Indianapolis and eventually to Holladay Properties.

“I worked my way up as a leasing agent to a property manager,” McFarland said. “Eventually I left that company and joined Holladay almost eight years ago.”

Today McFarland mostly oversees and supports Holladay’s commercial portfolio in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.

“We work with tenants from large corporations to small, locally owned businesses,” McFarland said.

Switching from supporting housing to worksites has given McFarland the opportunity to be both proactive and provide excellent customer service in the two main areas of our lives–home and work.

“If something happens at one of these apartment communities or one of these properties we manage, it obviously impacts these businesses and residents,” McFarland said. “In managing real estate, we're a service provider, and the people I work with really care about what we do. We want to provide a good service and product to our customers or tenants.”

As part of Holladay Properties, McFarland and his team not only support property management but also work alongside internal facilities personnel. Everything from landscaping to facility maintenance is all done within Holladay.

“Holladay essentially acts as a contractor because we perform services for the properties that we manage with our staff in-house,” McFarland said. “As a result, we get to be more hands-on.”

Another reason McFarland finds his work satisfying is because of the culture that Holladay Properties has created.

“We’re a big family here,” McFarland said. “The entire team is very personable and hands-on compared to other, larger organizations.”

A big part of this culture at Holladay involves giving back to the community through dedicated and paid time off to volunteer.

“All Holladay employees have time throughout the year where we volunteer and serve our community,” McFarland said.

In fact, the climate at Holladay is so appealing that both McFarland and his wife work for the company.

“My wife focuses on residential, multifamily property management here in Northern Indiana,” McFarland said. “Since we're both so involved in this industry, property management kind of surrounds us.”

When not hard at work, McFarland and his wife enjoy quality time together with their two children traveling and being together.
