Hit the Road for VNA

Lories-Lakeside-Bike-Ride-1Looking for something new and different to do, close to home? The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County will sponsor Lorie’s Lakeside Century bicycle ride on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Experienced riders, novices, individuals, groups and families are invited to explore the solitude of shaded country roads, spectacular views of Lake Michigan and prairies as they bike along the lake and through the Indiana Dunes and countryside on marked routes.

Lorie’s Lakeside Century is named in memory of Lorie Kirkley, a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at Porter and an avid cyclist who lost her life to a violent crime in 1999. Proceeds from the ride will benefit the programs and services of the Visiting Nurse Association in Lorie’s memory.

Riders can choose their ride distance, ranging from 25 – 100 miles along a variety of routes that include unique rest stops along the way at the Art Barn (featuring live entertainment from 10 am to 2 pm), Lions Club Pavilion in New Buffalo (with an Elvis twist), the Lakeview Pavilion (stunning view of Lake Michigan) and Garwood Orchard (where you’ll find the Orchard’s Annual Apple Fest underway!).

Lories-Lakeside-Bike-Ride-2Registration includes a route map and marked route, food at the rest stops along the way, roadside emergency assistance if needed, and lunch. Riders can even receive free registration and a free t-shirt if they obtain pledges or make a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more.
