The United Way of Porter County’s Power of Youth Council is a youth philanthropy program for Porter County high school students that are dedicated to improving and creating a positive perspective of youth through the performance of valuable services that benefit others.
On Monday, June 7, teens will participate in the walk, "Walk for Awareness” of Teen Substance Abuse which begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. The walkers will gather at 3176 Lancer St in Portage.
The walk is to help bring awareness and raise money to help the community better understand that teen substance abuse is a growing concern. The Power of Youth Council wants everyone to know that they want to be involved in helping fight against addiction among their peers.
The teens expectations are to:
- RAISE $4000 to be granted to local nonprofits with programs that address teen substance abuse.
- RAISE awareness of the teen substance abuse rate in Porter County.
- RAISE the outlook on youth in Porter County
Pledge forms and instructions are available at: http://www.thepowerofyouth.org by clicking on FORMS.
