Coverage Recap

Crown Point vs. Hanover Central Baseball

The Hanover Central Wildcats traveled to Crown Point to take on the Bulldogs in an early season non-conference matchup. Noah Ehrlich had two hits and one RBI and Christian Briseno had a key double to secure the victory for the Bulldogs.

Penn vs. La Porte Baseball

The back-to-back defending 4A State Champion Penn Kingsmen traveled to La Porte to take on the Slicers for each team’s opening game. The bats were hot for both squads as the score was 10-6 in favor of Penn after three innings. The Kingsmen were able to hold on and win by a final score of 10-7. River Pecina was two for four with 2 XBHs for the Kingsmen. Senior Drew Catron had two hits and two RBIs for the Slicers.

Andrean vs Wheeler Softball

The Wheeler High School Bearcats took on the Fighting Andrean High School 59ers at home on March 27. Andrean took an early lead in the first going up 3-0. The Bearcats would try and claw themselves back up in the fourth scoring two runs. In the end that was not enough. The 59ers won with a final score of 3-2.

Region Sports Update

The Indiana University (IU) Northwest Men’s and Women’s Basketball seasons have come to a close, and what a year it was! 

The men’s basketball team won the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament championship for the first time in program history!

Junior Jessica Carrothers, Butler transfer, broke the program record for most points in a game not once, but twice!

Carrothers scored 44 against Trinity Christian College on Jan. 29 and 51 at St. Ambrose University on Feb. 17.

The IU Northwest women’s basketball team finished the regular season with a 17-12 mark overall and 13-7 record in the CCAC, good for fifth place in the conference standings.

As baseball season gets underway, we want to highlight some notable players for the upcoming season in the Duneland Athletic Conference

Through two games so far in the season, the Crown Point High School Bulldogs are 2-0, with victories over Hanover Central High School and Hammond Bishop Noll Institute. 

Junior First Baseman, Jaxton Alexander and Junior Third Baseman, Logan Cotton lead the team with a .500 batting average. 

As for Softball, the Lake Central Indians are currently sitting in first place of the conference with a record of (2-0). 

Junior Outfielder, Jessy Del Toro, leads the Indians with a .833 OBP or On Base Percentage.

Tuesday, April 2

The (0-1) Crown Point Bulldogs Girls Softball team has a home conference game against the (0-1) Valparaiso High School Vikings. 

The (0-2) Merrillville High School Pirates travel to Lake Central High School to take on the (0-3) Indians.

The (3-0) Hobart High School Brickies head to Munster to face the (3-2) Mustangs. 

 Wednesday, April 3

The (1-2) Chesterton Trojans host the (0-0) Valparaiso Vikings in the second game of a back-to-back. 

The (2-0) Crown Point Bulldogs host the Michigan City High School Wolves in the second game of a back-to-back. 

Saturday, April 6

The (0-2) Portage High School Indians travel to Hobart for a non-conference game against the (1-0) Brickies.
