IHSAA Boys Basketball Sectional Games Recap:
Mishawaka Cavemen vs South Bend John Adams
Mishawaka Cavemen defeated South Bend John Adams 41-37 to go on to face South Bend Riley in the IHSAA 4A Sectionals.
Mishawaka used a powerful second half to propel the team to victory after trailing in the first quarter. The Cavemen move to 18-7 on the season while the South Bend Adams finishes the season with a 9-15 record.
Chesterton Trojans vs Lowell Red Devils
The Chesterton Trojans took on the Lowell Red Devils in an IHSAA Sectional playoff game. The Trojans were victorious, 74-38.
Tyler Parrish led the Trojans in points with 19.
South Bend Riley vs Michigan City Wolves
South Bend Riley Wildcats advanced to the IHSAA 4A Sectionals Championship with a 58-50 win over the Michigan City Wolves. The Wildcats move on with a 21-4 to the Championship to face the Mishawaka Cavemen. The Wildcats have a chance for payback as the Cavemen defeated the Wildcats in last year’s tournament.
Crown Point Bulldogs vs Valparaiso Vikings
The Crown Point Bulldogs played the Valparaiso Vikings in an IHSAA Sectional playoff game. Both teams came out to play; all night they were within a few baskets of each other. In the end the Bulldogs took home the win with a final score of 55-51. Crown Point guard Jack Svetich led the Bulldogs with 20 points.
Mishawaka Cavemen vs South Bend Riley Sectional Championship
Mishawaka High School defeated South Bend (SB) Riley 45-43 in an overtime thriller to secure back-to-back sectional championships.
Mishawaka - Brady Fisher- 14 points
SB Riley - Payton Baird - 15 points
East Chicago Central Cardinals vs Munster Mustangs Sectional Championship
The East Chicago Central Cardinals defeated the Munster Mustangs 56-52 at the East Chicago Sectional Championship on Friday.
Dominique Murphy led the Cardinals with 23 points, while Nolan Kinsella led Munster’s effort with 16 points.
The win secures the Sectional title for the Cardinals and also advances East Chicago to Regional play, where the team will face the Mishawaka Cavemen.
The Cardinals are now 22-4, while the Mustangs close its season with an 18-9 overall record.
Chesterton Trojans vs Crown Point Sectional Championship
The Chesterton Trojans Boys Basketball faced off against the Crown Point Bulldogs in an IHSAA Sectional Championship game.
The Bulldogs were victorious with a final score of 68-36.
Jack Svetich scored 28 points.
Region Sports Update
We want to give a shoutout to Marquette Catholic High School Girls Basketball player Laniah Davis for achieving 1000 career points as a sophomore!
Transitioning to College Basketball, for the first time this season, Indiana University Northwest men's basketball Junior Guard Anthony Taylor has been named Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week.
Taylor, who helped the RedHawks defeat No. 11 Roosevelt 81-70 on the road, averaged 16 points, six rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. For the week, the Chicago, native shot 11-of-19 from the field and was 4-for-6 from downtown.
For the season Taylor has averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game and is first in the league in total blocks with 47.
This is the first weekly league award for the RedHawks since Jared Johnson won the accolade back on Dec. 21, 2021.
Congratulations to Cailey Weber of the Hobart track and field team for signing her National Letter of Intent and continuing her track and field career at Purdue Northwest!
Speaking of track and field, high school’s all around Northwest Indiana are ramping up for the track and field season, which is quickly approaching.
