Give Local on May 6th

Give-LocalWhat is ‘Give Local’?
Give Local America is a national day of community giving in which community foundations all across America will be participating. It is a 24-hour online event on May 6, 2014.

Give Local is a partnership of community foundations and nonprofits across the country, along with the Council on Foundations and Kimbia (a fundraising technology expert), all working together to raise funds for local causes while commemorating the 100th anniversary of the country’s first community foundation.

What does it mean for Porter County?
Building on the success of our Porter County GIVE Day, the Porter County Community Foundation will keep the online-giving momentum going as an official Give Local America participating foundation. Together, with other community foundations from northwest Indiana (Legacy, Crown Point and Unity) and across the country, the Foundation will host this day to directly benefit our nonprofit partners.

The 24-hour event will be completely online and the money raised that day for a broad spectrum of local causes will be eligible for a portion of the funds from the Give Local America national match pool. The event will be held in place of our Porter County GIVE Day in 2014 and will be branded as Give Local-Porter County.

How does Give Local- Porter County work?
The public will be invited to donate to an approved list of nonprofit organizations that provide programs and services for Porter County residents. All donations must be made online on May 6, 2014 at givelocalportercounty.org within the 24-hour period from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Gifts given to the nonprofits selected to benefit from Give Local-Porter County are matched from a national match pool on a pro-rated basis. This means that the percentage in which Give Local America will match donations will depend upon the total national match pool amount, as well as the total amount of donations raised during the event.

In addition to the pro-rated match, additional grant prizes from the Porter County Community Foundation will be offered throughout the day of the event.
