Garden Grant Used to Continue Community Garden

Garden-Grant-2013-1Portage Township Trustee, Brendan Clancy, along with the staff at the Bonner Senior Center received a two hundred fifty dollar Edible Community Garden Grant from the Porter County Master Gardeners Association.

Last year a grant was used to purchase garden timbers, tools, soil and plants to cultivate and build a raised garden located at the Bonner Senior Center, 5800 Lexington Road in Portage. This year the grant will be used to continue the community garden which has become a therapeutic outlet for senior citizens who have a passion for gardening but may lack the space or the funding to establish a garden at their home.

Garden-Grant-2013-2

The Bonner Senior Center has formed a garden club comprised of senior volunteers to prepare, plant and tend the garden. One thousand pounds of fresh vegetables and fruits were donated to our Portage Food Pantry last year.
