Garage Sale to be Hosted in Honor of Cancer Kids Foundation

NICK-LogoAs garage sale signs begin to adorn street posts and front lawns it is apparent that spring cleaning season is underway.

While people all over the country open their garages for private sales. The residents of Northwest Indiana have the opportunity to come together in a regional garage sale event and support local families impacted by childhood cancer.

Champion Self Storage will be hosting their annual garage and vendor sale from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 1104 W. Lincoln Hwy in Schererville, Ind. on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation. The NICK Foundation provides hope and assistance to families in local and surrounding areas affected by pediatric cancer.

Champion Self Storage manager Roxann Crowder said, "In my heart this is a way to give back. When I heard about the kids I had to find a way to help."

NICK Foundation co-founder Donna Criner said, "This event is very important to us, any form of help means a lot to our families."

Crowder said, "The company is big on doing fundraisers for organizations in need. I feel like this is a win-win situation for the families of the foundation, local businesses and our customers."

Participants in the event will keep all profits made from the sell of their goods.

The well-known Chick-fil-A cow will be in attendance from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Chick-fil-A community relations director Carolyn Shaw said, "We hope hundreds of people will come out and support this great event for NICK and have their picture taken with the Cow! It'll be a fun day!"

Children that attend will be able to receive balloons twisted into various creations by a balloon artist. A clown and face painter are tentatively scheduled for the event.

Six live dance performances featuring dancers from The Dance Factory dance studio in Crown Point, Ind. will also be showcased at the sale event.

Crowder said there will be a raffle and many local businesses have donated gift cards, prizes and resources such as BMW of Schererville, Ice Mountain, Texas Roadhouse and RK Electric.The event will include a food court and local eateries will be contributing their goods and services including Cold Stone Creamery and Ciao Bella Ristorante of Schererville, Ind.

The garage and vendor sale is open to the public and admission is a donation of $1.50.

In order to sell at the event participants must reserve a storage unit and rent tables to display their garage sale items upon.
