From My Desk To Yours – Summer is Almost (Officially) Here

Written by Terry Hufford

With two thirds of spring officially over and temperature still in the 40s, is there anyone not dreaming of summer? If you ask 20 people what they like most about summer, you will probably get 20 different answers. Boating, golfing, hiking, going to the beach, gardening, flowers, baseball games, a family trip are all possible answers.

Our 36th trip to the north woods of Wisconsin is a month away and all 15 that are making the trip this year are already packing, shopping, making tee times, and talking about it all the time.

The Chamber has great plans for the summer as well. For the first time, we have moved our annual golf outing from May into June. Hopefully, the cold and the rian will have moved out of the area by that time. June 13th is the scheduled date, and the Brassie Golf Club will be our host. We hope all of you will join us for a great day of golf, dining, networking, sharing laughs, and most of all, a day in the sun and out of the office.

Our 2011/2010 Chamber Membership Directory and Community Profile will be complete, and in distribution by July 10th. Thank you to all who continue to support the publication of the finest directory and community profile in Northwest Indiana.

As you are planning your summer activities you may want to mark your calendars for the Tuesdays between June 14th and the end of August. Every Tuesday from 6:00pm to 7:30 at Woodland Park we will feature our Music in the Park series. We have added a twelfth show, and many new performers. Combining with the Portage Parka and Portage Live Entertainment Association, the Chamber is proud of this opportunity to host free shows for our community thanks to the generosity of Chamber members who have decided to sponsor this series.

I hope all of our members go into the summer with plans to enjoy some time with family and friends, and come out of summer a little more relaxed with great memories of great times this 2011 summer.

Always, remembers to enjoy this day, it is the one that has been given to us.
