Friends of Fishing to Host Ice Fishing Derby

Friends-of-Fishing-LaPorte-Derby-Jan-28

The first derby to be held this weekend has been postponed until February 4th. The group will still meet Saturday to draw for raffles!

Friends of Fishing has formed as an effort to make a difference on many aspects of fishing events and help the communities in Porter County. The group has held Ice Fishing Derbies last year and a “Take a Kid Fishing” day on Loomis Lake in Valparaiso.

This year, two Ice Fishing Derbies have been planned, if weather cooperates! The first one will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Loomis Lake in Valparaiso, which is located in Rogers Lakewood Park off of Meridian Road. Check-in starts at 6 am and fishing will be held from 7 am until noon. Food, fun, prizes, and raffles will also be available! Pre-register for the event at the Valpo Parks Department! The makeup date for this derby will be February 4th.

The second derby will be held in LaPorte on January 28. Come out to Cummins Lodge, located on the northeast corner of Stone Lake. Pre-registration is available through the LaPorte Parks Department and the makeup date, if weather does not cooperate, will be February 11th.
