The two-time heart transplant recipient discussed his often-difficult journey and talked of his gratitude to those who have contributed toward saving his life.

“If it wasn’t for the help I received, I wouldn’t be standing before you today,” he told those gathered in the hospital’s Corpus Christi Chapel. During a Mass that also was celebrated as part of the program, the Rev. Anthony Janik, hospital spiritual services department director, lit candles in honor of the 36 organ donors the hospital has assisted in the last year. The hospital partners with the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network and the Northwest Indiana Lions Eye Bank. Other speakers included Barbara Anderson, hospital president and chief executive officer; and Merrilee Frye, Lake County coroner.
