Foundation Surprises Local Nonprofits for 2016 Random Acts of Kindness Week

pffc-rak-2016To commemorate its 20th Anniversary, the Porter County Community Foundation celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week this week (Feb. 15-19) by surprising 20 nonprofit partners throughout Porter County with small gifts to support the nonprofits’ good work.

On Wednesday Feb. 17, the Foundation staff traveled throughout the county, personally delivering the gifts to the nonprofit organizations. Some of the stops included delivering 30 bags of chicken to Portage Township Food Pantry, games, chalk and supplies to Hilltop Neighborhood House, and 200 lbs. of dogfood to Lakeshore PAWS.

“I loved having the opportunity to surprise people who didn’t know we were coming and to witness their overwhelming appreciation for our deliveries,” said Barb Young, Foundation President. “Our goal was to brighten their day.”

Additionally, the Foundation staff delivered gifts to the following nonprofit organizations: Boys & Girls Club of Porter County – Duneland Club, Call-A-Ride, The Caring Place, Chesterton Art Center, Duneland Family YMCA, Dunes Learning Center, Family & Youth Services Bureau Tot Shop, Housing Opportunities, Kouts Fire Department, Opportunity Enterprises, Portage Township YMCA, Porter County Career Center, St. Agnes, Valparaiso Family YMCA, and VNA Phoenix Center.

The Porter County Community Foundation is able to annually provide more than $2 million in scholarships and grants to nonprofit organizations. Since 1996, the Foundation has disbursed $19 million in grants to support the work of local nonprofits and help build a stronger Porter County.
