Fireworks on the Lakefront Tuesday, July 2

DUNELANDFIREWORKSDuneland to celebrate the 5th Annual Fireworks on the Lakefront event on Tuesday, July 2 – a celebration which drew a crowd of more than 13,000 last year.

Chesterton, IN- The Town of Porter will host the 5th Annual Fireworks on the Lakefront event on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. The event will take place at the Indiana Dunes State Park & the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The Duneland Chamber of Commerce has coordinated the event’s festivities, which will include live entertainment, fresh food merchants and a spectacular fireworks show.

“Last year, over 13,000 Duneland residents and visitors attended this family-friendly event,” said Heather Ennis, the Chamber’s Executive Director. “But it’s not just an amazing party on the beach – it’s a testament to how this community comes together to celebrate its freedom and its future.”

logoGuests will be able to enjoy fresh food merchants and live music beginning at 6:00pm. Fireworks will be set off from a barge on Lake Michigan show beginning at 9:15pm. The Chris and Lou Band will play both before and after the fireworks, and so visitors are encouraged to stay and relax on the beach after the fireworks show. Free bus transportation will be provided from Chesterton Middle School and Yost Elementary School to Porter Beach from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. Guests are asked not to park in grassy areas at either school, and to bring only items that will fit safely on their laps during the bus rides. The last returning bus will leave Porter Beach at 11:00pm. All buses will stop at both schools.

Entrance to the Indiana Dunes State Park is $5 per car, or $10 per car with an out-of-state license plate. Please be aware that there will be a high amount of traffic at the State Park and Porter Beach. Guests are also asked not to bring any fireworks to this professional fireworks show, in order to avoid fire hazards. Alcohol is not permitted within Indiana Dunes State Park.

The 2013 Fireworks on the Lakefront event would not be possible without many community supporters, including the Porter County Commissioner, the Towns of Porter, Chesterton, and Burns Harbor, the Duneland School Corporation, Indiana Dunes Tourism, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Luke Oil.
