Some of the best-paying jobs nowadays go to people with technical skills.
High school students may choose from more than 30 half-day programs at the Porter County Career and Technical Center, 1005 N. Franklin St., Valparaiso, and other sites.
Current sophomores and juniors might look at everything from Welding to Horticultural Science to Criminal Investigations. Most students will have a chance to earn dual college credits while enrolled in a career and technical class. The programs last half a day and count as elective credit toward any Indiana diploma.
The final set of open houses will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Most programs will welcome current high school sophomores and juniors from 8 a.m. or 1 p.m.
Schools served by the career and technical programs are Boone Grove, Chesterton, Hebron, Hobart, Kouts, Morgan Township, Portage, Valparaiso, Washington Township and Wheeler High Schools.
