‘Fences’ Production Comes to Theatre Northwest on Grant

MasMedia 7, an independent production company, is proud to announce its production of “Fences,” a play by August Wilson.

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., January 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, and February 1 and at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 19 and 26 and February 2 at Theatre Northwest on Grant, 3660 Grant St., located one mile west of the main campus at 37th Avenue and Grant Street. Theater Northwest is the performance company of the Indiana University Northwest Department of Performing Arts.

The play is produced and directed by IU Northwest Visiting Professor of Theatre, Mark Spencer. Spencer, of Gary, graduated from IU Northwest in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre. MasMedia 7 is his independent production company.

“Fences” is a story about Troy Maxson, a former baseball player in the Negro Leagues now reduced to collecting trash, who must deal with his headstrong football-player son and his wife, who reevaluates their marriage when Troy comes home with the baby he fathered with another woman.
